Under Iowa Law, the County Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer, chief prosecuting attorney, and the legal advisor and lawyer for our county government.  Unlike other county positions that were created by the state legislature, the county attorney position was created by the Iowa Constitution.  The objective of the Buena Vista County Attorney's office is to provide the highest level of professional service to the taxpayers in securing justice, holding criminals accountable, promoting the public health and safety, and maintaining and preserving the unique attributes of rural Iowa living.  We pursue these aims by enforcing the criminal laws, promoting civil protection for crime victims, the disabled, abused and neglected children, and the environment.
